From cohort to client: how 3 students landed paid work in 60 days

Three Cohort 01 students went from no portfolio to first paid project inside 60 days. Here is exactly what they did, told in their own words.

Cohort 01 started in October 2025. Sixty days in, three students had already been paid for design work. They were not exceptional cases. They were paying attention to the same advice every cohort gets, and they acted on it earlier than most.

Marvel, 22, UI/UX cohort

Marvel sent every weekly assignment to her LinkedIn the day she finished it. By week five, a Douala SME founder reached out asking if she did landing pages. She said yes, quoted a starter package she had drafted in class, and shipped a five page Webflow site three weeks later. Forty thousand XAF for the first paid build. She has done two more since.

I was scared to charge anything at first. My mentor made me build a starter package with a fixed price in our first month. That price was the only reason I had something to send when the founder asked.

Ange, 24, Brand identity cohort

Ange used the first month to build a self initiated case study for a fictional African coffee brand. She posted the process on Instagram, daily, with progress shots. By week seven, a real coffee brand in Yaoundé reached out. Ange ran the same process for the real client and closed for one hundred and twenty thousand XAF on a three week timeline.

Bryan, 26, WordPress cohort

Bryan ran the WordPress maintenance pitch every Friday after class. Five SMEs, one cold email, every Friday. By week six, two had said yes to a monthly retainer at thirty thousand XAF each. He was earning sixty thousand XAF a month in recurring revenue before the cohort had even finished.

Friday emails were boring. I sent the same template five times a week. I thought I was being annoying. Two said yes. I learned that 'annoying' is mostly a story I was telling myself.

The pattern

All three did the same three things. They priced a starter package early. They put their work in public, consistently. They reached out to real prospects before they felt ready. None of this is exotic. All of it is hard if you wait to feel confident first.

If you are in a cohort right now, pick one of those three actions and run it this week. Sixty days is shorter than you think.
